How to Overcome Anxious Thoughts

Noah Herrin · Hebrews 13:7-9

Noah Herrin preaches from Hebrews 13:7-9 to show that anxious, negative thoughts can be changed by reorienting our thinking toward the consistent, gracious character of God. He argues that Christians often fill unknowns with worst-case scenarios, consume content that trains cynicism, and let inconsistent human leaders or past experiences dictate their view of God. Instead, we should remember Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, draw strength from God's grace (not achievement or rules), and let that steady truth retrain our minds. Practical steps include praying for and appreciating leaders, curating the content we consume, and resting in God's delight and approval rather than proving ourselves.

“Here's the truth of the whole message ... It's that bad thoughts can ruin your life, but you can change your life by changing your minds.” · Noah Herrin

Take it with you

When anxious or negative thoughts arise, intentionally redirect your mind to truths about God's character: his consistency and grace. Limit cynical or fleshly content (including unaccountable Christian influencers) and instead feed on Scripture and faithful local church teaching. Pray for your leaders and practice receiving God's approval as a reality, not something you must earn.
