The Slippery Slope of Sin - Harrison Conley

Harrison Conley uses David’s fall (2 Samuel 11-12) to show how big moral failures usually grow out of small, unguarded compromises. He traces David’s descent as a sequence of small steps (stayed, saw, sent, slept, schemed, sorrowed), arguing that isolation, boredom, and unchecked thoughts open the door to sin. Conley warns that temptation exploits desires within us, not just external circumstances, and urges practical accountability (groups/way-groups) and immediate flight from sexual temptation. The message closes with the call to repentance and the reminder of God’s mercy and forgiveness when we confess and turn to Christ.

“When we're not where we should be and when we're isolated away from accountability we become increasingly vulnerable in the area of our thought life.” · Harrison Conley

Take it with you

Nip small compromises in the bud: don’t abdicate responsibilities, avoid prolonged isolation, and get accountability (way-groups). For sexual temptation, flee and don’t 'flirt' with danger - practical boundaries are essential. If you’ve already sinned, repent (turn toward Christ), confess, and seek restoration; God’s mercy meets conviction.
