Work Hard Sabbath Hard - Noah Herrin

Noah Herrin · Exodus 20:8

Noah Herrin teaches that God created both work and Sabbath as complementary gifts: we are meant to work hard and Sabbath hard. He traces work back to Genesis (work as part of God's design) and warns of two corruptions the devil uses against work - laziness and the idolatry of work. Herrin urges Christians to see work as worship (Colossians 3:17) while protecting relationships and identity from being consumed by career. He defines Sabbath as a 24-hour pause for delight and worship that points us back to the finished work of Christ rather than our own performance.

“The point of a Sabbath is actually the cross... reminding our soul that it's not our works but it's the finished work of Jesus.” · Noah Herrin

Take it with you

Work is a God-given vocation - do it creatively, purposefully and as worship (Colossians 3:17). Protect one 24-hour Sabbath each week devoted to delight and worship; plan it and refuse other commitments. Avoid laziness, and also avoid idolizing work so that relationships and spiritual rest are not sacrificed.
