Holy Habits - Noah Herrin

Noah Herrin · Galatians 6:7-10 · Holy Habits series

Noah Herrin argues that a single encounter with Jesus can set someone free, but lasting transformation comes through intentionally formed 'holy habits.' He distinguishes shallow theologies (a 'get out of jail free' faith or selective obedience) from a theology that pursues kingdom transformation and insists there are no accidental saints. Herrin uses Galatians 6 to show that where we 'sow' - i.e., the habits we invest in - determines our fruit, and he urges Christians to train (not just try) to become like Christ. Over the next eight weeks he will unpack practical habits (repentance, prayer, Scripture, Sabbath, gratitude, discipling/discipleship, serving) while reminding listeners that the habits create space for God to change us. He closes with two promises: God will meet you in the habits if you draw near, and growth often takes time and will frustrate you if you give up.

“If the only thing that changes about your life when you put your faith in Jesus is where you spend Sunday mornings for 60 minutes, you are not going to be transformed into the image of Jesus.” · Noah Herrin

Take it with you

Start small and be consistent: pick one habit (scripture reading, prayer, Sabbath, repentance, serving, or discipling) and make it a non-negotiable regular practice. Understand habits as environment-changers that put you before God so he can do the transforming - the power is in God, not the ritual. Expect slow, uneven progress ("long obedience in the same direction") and don't quit: Galatians 6 promises a harvest if you don't give up.

Key Scriptures

Galatians 6:7-10Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows... whoever sows to please their flesh from the flesh will reap destruction, but whoever sows to please the Spirit from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Matthew 5 (Sermon on the Mount)Examples from the Sermon on the Mount cited: if you look with lust you've committed adultery in your heart; anger in your heart is likened to murder - Jesus' teachings that call for heart-level change.
