How To Practice Repentance - Noah Herrin

Noah Herrin teaches from Luke 15 that repentance is a regular habit for the Christian life, not a one-time event. He argues sanctification happens as we spend time with a holy God through holy habits, and repentance is a key habit that helps us become more like Jesus. Using the prodigal son's story he outlines a pattern: desire leads to sin, the Spirit convicts (we come to our senses), we confess, and then we receive the Father's mercy. Herrin emphasizes that the Father eagerly awaits and runs to repentant children, and that frequent repentance reminds us of Christ's beauty and breaks cycles of recurring sin.

“"Repentance is not just something that we should do when we decide to follow Jesus but repentance is something that we should do as we follow Jesus."” · Noah Herrin

Take it with you

Practical steps: (1) Come to your senses - acknowledge the desires that lead you to sin. (2) Confess those sins to Jesus (and to others if appropriate) so they are no longer hidden. (3) Receive the Father’s forgiveness and feast in his grace, letting regular repentance reorient your affections toward Christ. Make repentance a habit so grace - not guilt - shapes your response to failure.
